Volkswagen GTI Driver’s Edition: One Hot Hatch
The 2013 Volkswagen GTI Driver’s Edition graced the Chicago Auto Show alongside siblings. The VW booth featured various versions of the Beetle and the GTI. The Driver’s Edition generated special attention from hot hatch fans, thanks to a sleek body and a bit of power!
The 2013 VW GTI Driver’s Edition looks fresh, but is it capable of competing in the hot hatch market in its class?
The GTI Driver’s Edition is a nice way to wrap up the 2013 model year as the brand prepares to unleash the all-new MkVII Golf next year. Just 3,000 units of the Driver’s Edition will be produced, and all will be 4-door layout only. It would be interesting to see a rendering featuring a 2-door layout, a coupe-meets-hatch hybrid perhaps.
The overall shape of the TDI does not scream hatchback, it is more of a pronounced sedan
Color palette options are limited to Candy White, Deep Black or Carbon Steel Gray. Standard options for this hatch will include a navigation package, sunroof, a golf-ball shift knob, partial leather seating and red accent stitching on the floor mats. To sweeten the deal, VW perched this GTI on 18-inch Laguna wheels.
The red detail stitching looks great but could have continued onto the seating for greater appeal, it appears unfinished.
Buyers of this limited edition VW will also receive a certificate of authenticity, keychain, hat, and parking sign…you know…for swag. All of this for the bargain price of $29,695 for the six-speed manual or $30,795 for the DSG. There is also a VW GTI Wolfsburg Edition starting at $25,095. The two GTI models are the farewell round for the final production run for the sixth-generation hot hatch.
