Spy Shots of the Audi A3 Cabrio
Development appears to be moving forward for the next-gen Audi A3 Cabrio, as these spy shots were captured in Europe. While it does not appear drastically different, the camo is attempting to hide some minor updates. The changes appear to be subtle, and unlikely to continue to the powertrain.
The 2014 Audi A3 convertible has been caught testing in Europe
The Audi A3 Cabrio seems to take after the sedan version, with a prominent grille and those dazzling LED headlamps. The roof for the cabrio appears to be a standard fabric retractable, nothing fancy. This may indicate a lower pricing bracket for the A3. There is typically a price range for most buyers interested in owning an Audi.
This Audi A3 convertible is rolling on five-spoke alloy wheels with a dual exhaust system. It would be a surprise if Audi altered the powertrain. The engine options will likely carry over from the hatchback, so we can safely anticipate the following options under the hood:
- 1.8-liter TFSI kicking out 180 horses
- 2.0-liter TDI options with 150 or 184 horses
- Possible S3 Cabrio with 300 horses
- Possible RS3 variant with a turbocharged 2.5-liter and 400 horses
There are not many changes from the 2012 A3 convertible, pictured above. It will be easier to make comparisons when the camo comes off and the full details are dished
Audi has been busy touting the popular A3 sedan in markets worldwide, and the topless sibling will likely be met with open arms. The Audi A3 convertible could be positioned nicely to cater to the forlorn fans of the discontinued VW Eos.
It appears to handle well in the snow
Look for the new A3 Cabrio to officially debut around the Frankfurt Motor Show.
