Audi and Volkswagen Gearing Up to Make 300MPG Cars
Could an Audi or a Volkswagen vehicle ever compete with a human runner in the energy efficiency arena? Some sources cite a big yes to this insanity, with rumors flying around that Audi and VW are teaming up to produce vehicles capable of realizing a 300 mile per gallon dream. This is, of course, is before owners get their hands on them and add any high-performance parts into the mix. Will Audi 300MPG cars soon be a reality on the roads?
There are a plethora of high-efficiency hybrids and electric cars emerging. That said, 300 MPGs is shocking even in today’s ever-changing and environmentally friendly auto market. Audi CEO Wolfgang Durheimer announced that the brands are working on a 1.0-liter auto capable of delivering a staggering 282 MPGs while seating four passengers. If this is true, it will completely obliterate all competitors currently pursuing greener avenues.
The new vehicle is said to be based loosely on the Audi A1, just downscaled for fuel efficiency and equipped with hybrid superpowers.
Volkswagen is poised to release the production version of the XL1 concept soon. The XL1 utilizes a hybrid system and delivers around 313 miles per gallon thanks to a 27 horsepower electric motor paired with a 48-horse diesel. To put it mildly, this car was not engineered for high-performance.
The development process of the XL1 has given VW the experience it needs to create the more family-friendly Audi hybrid. The Audi will offer more seating capacity than the tiny XL1.
The VW XL1 concept
The extremely green Audi and VW lovechild could emerge as early as next year. The details are mostly under wraps, save a few delicious murmurs, for now.
