Say Goodbye to the Volkswagen Six Year Warranty Program

Volkswagen USA has made claims that its 6 year/72,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty is the best in the industry. Maybe because of this, their plans are actually to drop this amazing warranty.

As of 2020, VW is reporting they will drop their 6 year/72,000 mile warranty down to 4 years, 50,000 miles. So are you completely SOL with this downgrade? Not completely. Volkswagen is going to offer two years of free, factory covered maintenance to help ease the pain.

Looking at the marketplace, the aggressive 6yr warranty was definitely a customer acquisition tool used by the brand to purge customers off of other car platforms and I think VW has gained the market share they wanted by this marketing effort and need to realign their financial goals for the company as pressures are coming from various auto makers, recovering from the infamous diesel scandal as well as the rise in electrification.

So where does the warranty stand in the marketplace at the newly adjusted 4 yr/ 50,000 miles? Its actually still very competitive. Brands like Honda, Toyota and Ford all offer 3 year warranties and other luxury brands are offering 4yr.
