The spritely Golf has maintained a very healthy following over the years, with many opting to indulge in aftermarket tuning for the peppy car. The 2015 VW Golf will be much lighter, thanks to a strict diet of high-strength and ultra low weight materials. The overall body will be 2.2 inches longer and .5 inches wider than its predecessor, but the weight will be 51 pounds less thanks to new age materials and engineering.

It is assumed that the base model of the next-gen Golf will pack a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine kicking out around 170 horses with 184 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant provides the same output as the aged 2.5-liter four-cylinder while producing more torque and weighing less. There will likely be TDI, GTI and enhanced sport options offered for the Golf. According to reports, the VW GTI may get a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 210 horses in the stable.
